Welcome to School!
Dear Sutherland Families,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. I am so honored to be the Principal at Sutherland. I grew up in Glendora, as did my husband and our two sons. We have lived in the same house, near downtown Glendora, for well over thirty years. Many years ago, I began my career in Glendora as a lunch duty supervisor. Over the years I have worked in other districts as a teacher, GATE and AVID coordinator, assistant principal, and principal. Most recently, I worked for the Los Angeles County Office of Education as a consultant. Returning to work in Glendora has always been my dream, and I am thrilled to be home.
The new school year is off to a great start. We have three new teachers: Mrs. Lauren Eden is teaching kindergarten; Mrs. Lindsay Marcos is teaching fourth grade; and, Miss Katherine Gregory is teaching fifth grade. All three teachers have prior teaching experience, they all live in Glendora, and they all wanted to teach in the community they love. We are very fortunate to have hired these three excellent teachers. This year, we have a new English Language Arts curriculum called Wonders. The teachers spent most of the summer learning about the new adoption. They are excited to introduce it to the students.
In the past couple of weeks, I have been privileged to meet the rest of the Sutherland staff. The dedication, knowledge, innovation, and heart I have seen in these amazing people fills me with joy. The most important thing I have learned about the Sutherland staff is they are committed to the success of all children.
It has also been a great pleasure meeting Sutherland parents and families. The support and caring I have seen and heard is everywhere at Sutherland. I know it is a cliché, but I really do believe it takes a village to raise a child. This is one of the things I appreciate most about Glendora. It is a big city with a small city atmosphere, and a wonderful place to raise children.
I encourage you to join the Sutherland PTA. The PTA Board members have been busy planning and organizing so many fun events for the students and families. If you join the PTA you do not need to attend meetings, or volunteer. However, the PTA would love to have every Sutherland adult involved in events, and assisting with committees. The money raised by the PTA helps us pay for so many things at Sutherland, including field trips. I hope you will join our Sutherland PTA.
I am excited to get to know each child and all of the families at Sutherland. We are going to have a fabulous year!
